The House Blog Move and Clifftop Fodder

You catch me in a state of flux in my last week at this address running a mobile connection because Tiscali went out in a puff of smoke in last week’s power cut. I’m working on a couple of pieces that I started a few years ago as 1500 word stories. Through a series of [...]

Nameservers Are Changed

I just changed the nameservers at registrar LCN.com for the URL www.iandsmith.com and I’m going to upgrade this domain iandsmith.wordpress.com to iandsmith.com.

WordPress Automatic Upgrade Plugin

I just upgraded both my WordPress blogs to 2.3 using WAUP. Everything worked first time, which is more than can be said for my manual efforts in the past. That’s themes, sidebars, everything all in place, and I’m on 2.3. What more can I say?

I Added Snap Shots to My Site

Introducing Snap Shots from Snap.com I just installed a nice little tool on this site called Snap Shots that enhances links with visual previews of the destination site, interactive excerpts of Wikipedia articles, MySpace profiles, IMDb profiles and Amazon products, display inline videos, RSS, MP3s, photos, stock charts and more. Sometimes Snap Shots bring you [...]

How I Switched My WordPress Blog to a New Web Host

Since May 2007, my Hold It Up For Ridicule site, a WordPress blog, had been ridiculously slow. It wasn’t the only slow site hosted by Powweb. The Powweb community forum was full of complaints: as slow as molasses, they said! Saving a new post would take ten minutes, and sometimes it would just give up [...]

Awstats Plugin

Curioso’s awstats free WordPress plugin is just what I’ve been looking for to display Powweb’s Awstats on both my blogs, mainly Hold It Up For Ridicule, because it receives a lot of hits. I can’t get it to work yet, because I didn’t realise that I had to get my host to send me the [...]

What the Hell is Tagging and Tag Clouds in Blogs All About?

As a hopeless non-programmer in techieland, I’m finding this tagging stuff more difficult than anything I’ve done. It doesn’t make sense. But then today I found Ultimate Tag Warrior WordPress Plugin for Dummies, and things started to work. There are a lot of contradictory options in the configuration. For example, I had technorati and delicious [...]

Reading Waterfest 2007

I went to Reading Waterfest at the weekend. It’s all about the traditional folk music and dancing associated with canals in the UK, held on the site of the former Reading Abbey beside the Kennet and Avon Canal in Berkshire, England. This is my first post with Ultimate Tag Warrior. I already have lots of [...]

Blogging My Novel

I’ve been blogging my crazy satirical novel at Blogster since November 2006, and I’m reaching the “harrowing climax” as the PR goes. My friends at Blogster have been great, and Blogster is a lovely little blog. Image uploading is the best. But I haven’t been able to claim it in technorati, and I haven’t been [...]

Beyond This Mortal Plane Blog

Is it possible to send this trackback comment to John Thiel’s Yahoo 360 blog Beyond This Mortal Plane? I have a Yahoo ID, so it should work, but it looks as though Yahoo 360 blogs don’t connect to the blogosphere. I was able to subscribe to the feed in my Netvibes home page, but tag [...]
